About This Resource

This is the sixth episode of GoDoongDoong Symphony Season 2. The characters venture into a magical space where the background transforms into vibrant colours each time they play a sound.

Classroom Lesson Guide

[Suggested Lesson Plan]

Introduction (5 minutes): Encourage synesthetic thinking by asking, "If the sound of a piano were yellow, what colour would the sound of a drum be? What colours come to mind when you think of sounds?"

Development (15 minutes): Explore the colours of sounds by watching an animation.

Experience the vibrant colours that fill the screen every time the characters play their instruments.

On each subsequent viewing, whenever a main instrument is introduced, encourage the children to identify the colour that best matches its sound and discuss why that particular colour may have been selected to represent it.

Conclusion (10 minutes): Lead a 'Colouring Sounds' activity. Play (or imagine) different instrument sounds and encourage the children to freely apply colours to a sheet of drawing paper, expressing the emotions those sounds inspire. Conclude with a 'Sound Painting' exercise.

[Teaching Notes]

Embrace individuality: There are no right or wrong answers when describing the colour of sounds. Honour the children’s personal perceptions as much as possible and encourage them to explain why they selected particular colours.

Understanding timbre: To assist children in clearly distinguishing the sounds of various instruments—string, percussion, and wind—it is helpful to play samples of each during the lesson.
