About This Resource

This material is the fourth episode of GoDoongDoong Symphony Season 2. The main characters arrive at Crystal Lake and discover that the steady dripping of water provides an excellent foundation for music.

Classroom Lesson Guide

[Suggested Lesson Plan]

Introduction (5 minutes): "Tap, tap, tap! Have you ever noticed the regular sound of water droplets falling? There is a secret of m

usic hidden within this rhythm." Begin by asking this question to capture students’ interest in beats and the metronome.

Development (15 minutes): Understand the rules of water droplet rhythms by watching an animation.

Experience the stunning visuals of Crystal Lake and the soothing rhythm created by each falling droplet.
On your second viewing, focus on recognising the steady beat of the falling droplets and practise tapping along with your fingers to the video to develop a sense of timing.

Conclusion (10 minutes): Conduct 'Our Crystal Lake Ensemble'. Assign roles among friends, with some producing steady water droplet sounds at a consistent tempo, while others freely add various rhythms on top. This activity enables students to directly experience
the relationship between 'beat' and 'rhythm'.

[Teaching Notes]

Understanding tempo: Emphasise that a steady beat forms the foundation of any performance. Help students appreciate the importance of maintaining a consistent beat with the message, "If the beat wavers, the music wavers too."

Auditory focus: By training children to identify the 'steady pattern (beat)' amidst various sounds, we simultaneously enhance their auditory sensitivity and sense of rhythm.
