Classroom Lesson Guide
[Suggested Lesson Plan]
Introduction (5 minutes): Begin by asking, "What sounds might we hear in the forest? Can we create rhythms inspired by those sounds?" Explore the relationship between natural sounds and music.
Development (15 minutes): Watch an animation to discover how natural sounds transform into rhythms. Experience the rich variety of forest sounds complemented by the background music.
During the second viewing, whenever a particular sound occurs in the video (for example, the rustling of leaves), play a game where the children attempt to imitate the sound as closely as possible or replicate the rhythm within the classroom.
Conclusion (10 minutes): Carry out the 'Finding Forest Rhythms in Our Neighbourhood' activity. Listen carefully to the sounds outside the classroom or through the window, then practise improvising rhythms that reflect the tempo of those sounds.
[Teaching Notes]
Auditory Focus: Assist children in recognising sounds not merely as 'noise' but as 'rhythms' by emphasising the tempo and pitch of the sounds.
Embrace an open attitude: there is no right or wrong way to express natural sounds as rhythms. Praise children’s imaginative and unconventional expressions to encourage uninhibited musical creativity.
