About This Resource

This material is the ninth episode of GoDoongDoong Symphony Season 2. It explores how to move beyond playing individual rhythms, blending sounds with other characters and synchronizing beats to create a richer musical harmony.

Classroom Lesson Guide

[Recommended Lesson Flow]

Introduction (5 minutes): Begin by asking, "What kind of sound do you think different rhythms create when they come together?" Today, let's explore the beautiful harmony made by our GoDoongDoong Symphony friends.

Development (15 minutes): Explore the principles of rhythm and harmony by watching an animation.
First viewing: Enjoy watching the characters as they each play their instruments, coming together to complete a piece of music.
On your second viewing, listen attentively to the sections where rhythms intertwine to determine which character’s sound is highlighted. Focus closely on the timing of the 'full stop' when everyone pauses simultaneously during rests.

Conclusion (10 minutes): Conduct an "Our Harmony" practice session by dividing the class into two groups. One group will play on the downbeat, while the other group plays offbeat or rests. Together, they will perform a simple rhythmic harmony.

[Teaching Notes]

Emphasize Listening Skills: The foundation of rhythmic harmony lies in attentive listening. Highlight that aligning their beat with the sounds of others is the essential first step toward musical development.

Promote a Harmonious Environment: Highlight that music is not a competition but a collaborative blend, encouraging students to appreciate each other’s sounds and cultivate a spirit of cooperation.
