About This Resource

This material is part of the music concept-linked teaching aid production series from the GoDoongDoong Symphony channel. It is a papertoy guide for creating the "Quarter Rest Gentle Peng" penguin figure by cutting out a flat layout and folding it into a three-dimensional shape that fits on your finger.

Classroom Lesson Guide

[Recommended Lesson Flow]

Introduction (5 minutes): Introduce the importance of the quarter rest—a precise one-beat pause in music—along with GentlePeng’s slogan, "The more urgent, the more we take a beat to rest!" Also, introduce the stylish penguin character, GentlePeng, featured in the video.

Development (25 minutes): Watch the video, which is broken down into step-by-step assembly stages, and assemble the components together.

Assembly order: Cut out the white body (base) ➔ Punch finger holes ➔ Assemble the round body ➔ Fold the three-dimensional beak and attach it to the center ➔ Cut out the tuxedo and wing parts ➔ Attach the tuxedo to the back and sides of the body.

Interaction: While dressing the penguin, reinforce the concept by saying, "Every time GentlePeng puts on his cool black tuxedo, we take exactly one beat to rest."

Conclusion (10 minutes): Place the completed GentlePeng on your finger and play music games. During rhythm play, when the quarter rest symbol appears or the teacher gives a signal, extend the hand holding GentlePeng forward and say "Sss!" or "Stop!" to pause briefly for one beat, then continue singing. This is a physical response game.

Guidance Notes (Safety Guide)

Caution When Punching Finger Holes: At step [01:14], a square notch is cut at the bottom of the body by making an X-shaped incision with a knife to create finger puppet play holes. Because this step involves using a knife, it is strongly recommended that the teacher or guardian prepare these cuts in advance. During the lesson, children must be closely supervised to ensure they do not handle the knife themselves.

Beak and Tuxedo Assembly: In the step at [03:42], the beak is folded into a triangular 3D shape, and the tuxedo is wrapped and glued along the lines. This process requires careful and precise gluing. For younger learners, the teacher should circulate and assist by holding the parts in place until the glue dries.
